Juliet Grace Smith Memorial Scholarship for Courage

The Juliet Grace Smith Foundation, in conjunction with Arlington Soccer, proudly presents the Memorial Scholarship for Courage. Established in 2011 in memory of Juliet Grace – daughter and sister of the Smith family who have coached, played, and managed in Arlington Soccer’s travel and recreational programs since 2002. As a 24 week preemie, Juliet’s courage in facing a daily regimen of life-or-death challenges was an inspiration to every person that knew, worked with, or learned about Juliet Grace. It is in this spirit that the Juliet Grace Smith Foundation will sponsor this annual scholarship award, in her name and to the Club with which she would have most certainly been a member. Winners of the award will have demonstrated tremendous courage in their lives, just as Juliet Grace did in hers, so that even more people can be motivated by stories of great courage in meeting life’s challenges on and off the soccer field.

JGSlogo15Each year, following the completion of the travel tryouts, financial aid-eligible Arlington Soccer players will have the opportunity to complete an application for the awards. The centerpiece of the application is an essay wherein the players are encouraged to tell their own stories of courage. We particularly applaud the efforts of our young players who draft their own application essays. Thanks to each of our applicants, who since 2011 have shared wonderful stories of courage and have promoted Juliet’s courageous spirit in your lives!  And congratulations to our previous winners of the Memorial Scholarship for Courage.

Juliet’s family had a stressful, harrowing, life-changing experience in the NICU during Juliet’s life. The purpose of Juliet’s Foundation is to help local preemie families by improving the NICU experience. Please help us help these families.  Tax-deductible donation options are available here from the Foundation website.
