ARL 02 Red Boys Return to National Championships Finals!

Teammates celebrate after Joe Core's goal that made it 2-0 in second half action vs Baltimore Celtic

OVERLAND PARK, KS, July 27, 2019. BREAKING NEWS: In the US Youth Soccer Championships, the Arlington Soccer ’02 Boys Red Team (ARL) secured a semifinal victory with a 2-0 win over Baltimore Celtic. ARL will defend its 2018 National Championship in tomorrow’s finals versus Solar '02 Castro-TX. 

ARL took a halftime lead of 1-0 in the semifinal match versus Celtic. ARL took advantage of a free kick by Jonah Garufi and James Canady found the back of the net at the 17-minute mark to put ARL up 1-0. 

ARL scored its second goal in the 76th minute on a beautiful play started by Josh Morrobel who moved the ball up the field from his defensive position, made a deft pass to James Canady who fed it to Joe Core for his fourth goal of the tournament and sealed the ARL victory.

Throughout the match, ARL displayed a strong presence in the midfield on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball. Jonathan Lee continued his strong play in goal.

After the match, ARL head coach Eduardo De Souza said, “The boys knew the game plan today. We play one match at a time with respect for every opponent. We are excited for the finals tomorrow and we are all in.”

ARL will play Solar ’02 in tomorrow’s championship game that features a rematch of the 2018 semifinals won by ARL by a score of 2-1. ARL looks to repeat as national champions as the finals will kick off at 7:15 am (CDT) and be available to watch live via US Youth Soccer http://championships.usyouthsoccer.org/live/.
