Boomers Win State Cup

The Under-12 Girls Arlington Boomers won the Virginia State Cup on Sunday, June 3, defeating the VISTA Sting 2-1 in overtime.

The Boomers advanced to the State Cup finals on Saturday when they beat Sterling in a shootout after a 0-0 tie in regulation and overtime play.  
After VISTA scored in the first half, Kelly Lightfoot scored on a free kick in the second half to tie the game.  Early in the overtime period, Liz Carroll, on a pass from Katharine Lee-Kramer, scored on a one-on-one with the VISTA keeper, and the Boomers defense held on to preserve the win.

This is the first time an Arlington girls team has ever won State Cup, and the first Arlington team to win in many, many years.
