ASA Hosts Successful Spring Tournament

ASA’s Travel Soccer Club hosted the third annual Arlington Spring Invitational Soccer Tournament (ASIST) over two weekends March 1-2 and March 7-9.

U15 Boys - Arlington Spring Invitational TournamentBoasting the slogan Rain?, Wind?, Cold? No problem!, the tournament emphasizes games played on artificial turf surfaces, guaranteeing that no match will be cancelled due to those dreaded words: “wet field conditions.”

In just three years ASIST has become one of the most competitive soccer tournaments on the East Coast, attracting many top-rated out-of-state teams.

  • The boys kicked it off the first weekend in chilly, blustery conditions typical of early March. Some 96 boys teams in age groups U10-U15 from as far away as Ohio competed in 12 divisions of play.

Arlington’s U10 Impact Red and U15 Venom distinguished themselves as Division Champions, and the U12 Strikers White and U15 Premier earned honors as flight champions and division runners-up.

  • The girls played the second weekend under often challenging conditions ranging from sleet, rain, showers, wind and sun—sometimes in just one game! With squads from as far away as Rochester, NY, 96 girls teams competed in 12 divisions of U10-U15 competition.

Arlington’s U15 Express and Blitz were notable for winning their flights and achieving honors as division runners-up.

ASA thanks its generous tournament sponsors; the Arlington Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources, Marymount University, Annandale Soccer Club and McLean Youth Soccer, which all provided artificial surface fields for the tournament; the many volunteers who helped make the tournament a success; the Arlington Travel Soccer Club; and Andy Megas—the Tournament Director, whose tireless efforts were critical.

The Tournament raises money for various ASA programs, including scholarships for travel players and funding for ASA’s Soccer Plus after-school enrichment program.
