ASA Clinics (field sessions only)
ASA clinics are 1 hour clinics that focus on the various age groups within our rec program. These clinics are free to attend, but registration is recommended so we can bring enough gifts for all coaches in attendance. Please attend as many as you like; if you are coaching a kindergarten team, we offer a variety of times and dates to help ease transition into your very first soccer team. Please attend the one the suits your schedule best, or all of them!

This event is an opportunity for ASA spring recreational coaches to discuss ‘Sportsmanship in Youth Soccer’ and how it relates to coaching within our recreational league. The format will involve a 45 minute presentation by ASA’s Rec Soccer Director, Dan Ferguson, followed by time to mingle with rec staff, managers, and fellow coaches. All in an laid back atmosphere conducive for conversation and questions. Appetizers provided, as well as drink specials. Registration is required (and limited to 70 people); please drink responsibly!
This 3 hour course if offered by VYSA and has theory (classroom) and practical (field) sessions. The module is run by a member of the VYSA technical staff and is geared towards a recreational coach. VYSA ‘F’ modules do not count towards the US Soccer pathway, and you will need to complete a US Soccer ‘F’ certificate to continue getting higher level licenses. This module is, however, fantastic for learning how to coach younger players.

United States Soccer Association ‘F’ Certificate
US Soccer offers an ‘F’ certificate which is the first license offered in the pathway towards higher certifications. This certificate is offered online, and there are no supplemental field sessions. This course is required to continue on the US Soccer Pathway.
Normally, the cost of the ‘F’ certificate is $25, but ASA has purchased “coupon codes” so you do not need to pay any money up front. To get a coupon code, please email the Recreational Soccer Director (email@example.com).
After you complete the course, please email a copy of your certificate to the Recreational Soccer Director for his records.
The USSF ‘E’ and ‘D’ licenses are for coaches who wish to continue through the US Soccer Federation pathway for coaching education. Coaches who wish to take these licenses must already hold the USSF prerequisite license (starting a a USSF ‘F’).
Licenses that are happening in Arlington are listed below, however a listing of all licenses scheduled in the state can be found here.

Training How to Head the Ball (6th grade and older)
Starting at 6th grade, Arlington Soccer players can begin to learn how to head the ball. ASA’s full heading policy can be found here. The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) has put together an excellent web series on how to teach heading in a safe environment, and is free. All you need to do is register with NSCAA (free). Highly recommended!
ASA Recreational Soccer Director, Dan Ferguson, and his highly trained staff can come run a practice with your team! To request one, just click on his name to send him an email requesting one. We love to work with our rec teams and players, so please take advantage!
Listed practices that Dan is currently running this season can be found on a google calendar. Please click here to view. Any coach is welcome to attend to watch and ask questions and the calendar is constantly updated!
Interested in getting your first aid or CPR certifications? You can view the current list of local courses through the DC Red Cross here. Please note that ASA does not reimburse for First Aid or CPR courses.
